"People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life." Liz Gilbert
One of the biggest things that a birth mom feels after she places her baby is loss. There is a great hole that needs to be filled. There is a great need for love...to give and to receive...to fill that hole. This can be a very dangerous need and most of the time we choose the wrong things to love and to love us back. From boys, random sex, alcholol, drugs, eating disorders and the list goes on....
What if we were able to take that need and fill it with something productive...with something that is going to bless our life? What if we were able to look within instead of going outward. Facing ourselves after something like placing your baby for adoption is always harder than putting on a fake smile and facing everyone else.
WE ARE THE ONLY ONES that can help ourselves. We can't rely on others to fill the void, we can't expect to get comfort from destructive behavior. We have to love ourselves, heal ourselves, take a look at ourselves, be big tough girls and change our course.
I pray for you my dear birth moms. Be brave enough to look in the mirror. Don't go to the world for comfort and love, don't be destructive to fill your void....bring it home, bring it inside...be your own soul mate.
